Welcome Newton residents,
My name is Matthew Miller and I am running for the School Committee seat from Ward 8. On November 7, 2017, there will be a city-wide election when all Newton residents can vote for me in this open seat, which is being vacated by Margie Ross Decter due to term limits.
My husband and I live in Oak Hill Park with our three wonderful children whom we adopted from the Department of Children and Families in Boston. Our children all attend Newton Public Schools (NPS) and are benefiting from special education and general education programs that have been life-changing. Our family, community, and education are my passions, and I am running for School Committee because I want the Newton Schools to be the best they can be for everyone’s children, including our own.
I am an experienced, proven, and dedicated community leader both in the public schools and across all of Newton. In the last six years I have served two schools as PTO president, overseeing $250k budget and over 100 volunteers, launched a global K-12 education program at 15 Newton schools, served on my Temple Board of Directors, and acted as President of Oak Hill Park Association for 600 homes. Professionally, I am a business entrepreneur, currently running a successful biotech executive recruiting firm which I co-founded.
My combination of school leadership, community engagement, and education experience with NPS, along with my professional business expertise and creative problem-solving, are assets to the School Committee. I will help make improvements, even in tough budget years, that will make a positive and sustainable impact on our teaching and learning now and in the future.
I would like to discuss your ideas and hear your stories. Please feel free to email and/or call at any time.
I hope you will support my candidacy so that we can ensure a top quality educational experience for all of our children and to ensure Newton’s education continues to make Newton one of the best places for families of all ages to live.
